Dr. Ronald Gibson, Adjunct Professor
Prior to UNR, Dr. Gibson was a Mechanical Engineering Professor and director of the Advanced Composites Research Laboratory at Wayne State University. He has also held faculty positions at Iowa State University and The University of Idaho, as well as visiting faculty positions at Stanford University, the University of Florida and Michigan State University.
Industrial/government experience as development engineer for Union Carbide Corporation, Nuclear Division and as a summer faculty fellow at the NASA Langley Research Center.

Weijian Hua is a Ph.D. Mechanical Engineering student at the University of Nevada, Reno. He received his Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Engineering from South China Agricultural University, Guangzhou, China. He received his Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Florida, Gainesville. His interests include 3D printing, bioprinting, tissue engineering, and biomaterials.
Manish Sakhakarmv is a Ph.D. Mechanical Engineering student at the University of Nevada, Reno. He received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from I.O.E, Thapathali Campus, Nepal in 2016. Before coming to UNR, he worked as Assistant Lecturer at Khwopa Engineering College in Nepal. In his free time, he enjoys watching anime and Sci-fi movies. His interests include sharing knowledge and research ideas, socializing, and hiking.
Kellen Mitchell is a Masters Mechanical Engineering student at the University of Nevada, Reno. After graduating from UNR in 2016 with a B.S. in mechanical engineering, Kellen worked in the composite manufacturing industry for 4 years. Kellen plans on pursuing a career in additive manufacturing with a focus on sustainability. In Kellen’s free time he enjoys mountain biking, snowboarding, and drumming in his rock band.
Erick is a third-year Mechanical Engineering student at the University of Nevada, Reno. Erick plans on pursuing a Master’s degree and then a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering. Erick likes to play basketball, soccer, football, swimming, chess, and ultimate frisbee. He also likes to hike, watch movies and tv shows.
Jack is a fourth-year Mechanical Engineering student at the University of Nevada, Reno. His research interests include manufacturing and 3D printing. Jack spent a semester working with the ARLISS club, training to put a satellite in orbit. Once he is finished with his bachelor’s degree, he will be pursuing a master’s in mechanical engineering. After graduation, he hopes to work in the aerospace industry. In his free time, Jack likes to relax with his wife and cats, play table top games with his friends, and learn languages.
Beatriz is a third-year Mechanical Engineering student at the University of Nevada, Reno. I will be graduating in the Spring of 2022 and will eventually pursue a Master’s degree. I am part of the Nevada Student Ambassadors and I tutor students in the Upward Bound program here at UNR. I enjoy walking my dogs, reading, and doing yoga.
Lily is currently a fourth-year Mechanical Engineering student at the University of Nevada, Reno. She plans to graduate in Spring 2021 and then attend UNR in Fall 2021 to pursue her Master’s degree. Lily has interests in the applications of 3D printing in the Biomedical Engineering field. She mentors freshman in the engineering program, tutors high school students, and grades for a class during the semester. Lily enjoys running, drawing, and being outside.
Chandler is a third-year Mechanical Engineering student at the University of Nevada, Reno. He plans to graduate in spring of 2022 and then enter the military in a mechanical engineering role, and later plans to return to school for a Masters degree for Electrical Engineering. His interests include exercising, reading, and traveling.
Matthew is a fourth-year Mechanical Engineering student at the University of Nevada, Reno. He has experience with using Solidworks for drafting and designing. Matthew has helped create the UNR 3D Printing club, which currently has about 18 active members. In his free time, Matthew enjoys playing and watching sci-fi video games and movies. He uses his engineering skills to create detailed replicas from his favorite games. After he graduates, Matthew intends on working as a lead engineer in the 3D printing field.
Chris is pursuing a dual major in Mechanical Engineering and Philosophy of Ethics, Law, and Politics with a minor in Mathematics at the University of Nevada, Reno. He will graduate with his Bachelor of Science and Bachelors of Arts in Fall 2019. He will be pursuing a Master’s Degree with the help of Dr. Yifei Jin. His main focus is primarily on advancement in the 3D printing field. Chris also works with Big Brothers Big Sisters where he has created a STEM program to teach, support, and inspire the next generation of engineers. After graduation, Chris intends to work as a Lead Engineer in the 3D bio-printer industry to develop cheaper, more accurate and robust bio-printers.
